Quite a lot of visitors to South Shields are sport orientated so here are some facts and useful telephone numbers which will hopefully assist you,

Golfers

Several golfing parties have enjoyed their stay in The Magpie's Nest - although to be honest not all of them have played a round of golf. One party turned up without any clubs, another turned up on the Friday with clubs but by the time Saturday came none of them could face the fresh air on the green. For the serious golfer Shields has several good golf courses nearby.

Fishing

The Magpie's Nest is happy to accommodate, but rods and tackle are securely locked up outside. There is great fishing off the two piers or boat trips can be arranged.

Football

For the football enthusiast the name The Magpie's Nest is a bit of a give away for Steve is a lifelong Newcastle supporter. Its by no coincidence that the outside of the building is painted black and white. The mural of magpie's painted on the front would have been Newcastle's crest if Steve had had his way but he's managed to weasel in a couple of tasteful Newcastle prints into the building. Sky sports and the Setanta channel is on all the TVs in the rooms and Steve and Jan enjoy the banter of rival supporters. Even Sunderland supporters have enjoyed their stay and booked to come again. The metro is the easiest way to get to St. James' Park - the station is 5 minutes walk away and the bus to Sunderland's Stadium of Light stops right outside the door
